What is the format for teams?The MRAR will accept only three person teams: coed, all female, and all male. The elite category for the race is the coed division. ONLY this category will be eligible to qualify for the USARA National Championships. All competitors will be eligible for prizes.I want to register online but I don't know my teammates. Can I do this?Yes. For the second and third team member sections in the registration form put the same information as you did for yourself EXCEPT, change the first name to member2 and member3 on the respective page. Your team does not have to be complete to register, but you should provide your complete team information by September 1. A current e-mail address is required for all participants. What gear do I have to carry during the race?You have to carry all individual gear and team gear during the entire race. This gear is labeled "Entire Race" on the gear list. For the other gear, it is just needed during the specified leg. Biking gear is only carried on the biking leg(s), etc... For the individual gear you need three pieces of each gear. For instance, between the team you need three compasses, three head lamps, etc. For the team gear you only need one piece of the gear. For example, one first aid kit, one water purification system, etc. Be prepared to show your mandatory gear at any point during the race. All gear should be in your possession during each leg including but not limited to bikes and boats unless specified in your passport instructions.What is the percentage breakdown of race legs?That exact information will be kept secret until the race begins. In general, expect the 14hr race to cover about 45 miles.Do I have to bring my own boat?Yes, you will need to provide your own canoe, paddles & pfd. No racing/composite boats will be allowed. Only 1 boat will be allowed per team.What will the events be like?The paddling will be on flat water. Trekking will be on Forest Service roads & trails. Biking will be on trails, FS roads and some paved road. You will navigate throughout the entire race.Where can I stay before and after the race?Tallulah Gorge State Park and Lake Russell WMA have camping available. Clayton has several hotels in addition to many cabins.Do I need any certifications?Certifications will not be required to race in the MRAR. However, we urge everyone to have proper experience rappelling.What kind of maps will teams receive?You will be given 1:24,000 United States Geological Service maps.How do I waterproof the radio supplied by race management?You can choose any way you wish. Usually two ziplock bags and duct tape work well. |
